STAY YOUR WAY

Experience Bremerhaven

The maritime city of Bremerhaven at the mouth of the Weser has a lot to offer: whether you are coming to Bremerhaven for a cruise and planning something to do before or after, or visiting the city because of its many sights, there is always something new to discover here, such as the Havenwelten, a unique museum landscape. The new harbour offers numerous attractions, including the German Emigration Centre, the “Zoo am Meer” and the training ship Deutschland.

In the old harbour, the climate house, the Wilhelm Bauer submarine, the world's only preserved Type XXI submarine, the German Maritime Museum, the museum ship FMS Gera, Europe's only floating deep-sea fishing museum, the Moin Outlet and the Columbus Shopping Centre attract visitors to the coast all year round. A walk along the dyke, whether towards the Weser lido, the Schaufenster Fischereihafen (fishing harbour showcase) or the cruise or container port, is an inviting way to relax. Excursions to Cuxhaven or Helgoland also start from here.

Bremerhaven also offers a wide range of cultural activities, for example at the city theatre, the art museum, the historical museum or one of the many concerts held directly in front of the church “Bürgermeister-Smidt-Gedächtniskirche”. Special events include the ‘Sail’ – an international windjammer parade – and the annual Christmas market, which enchants the city.

Bremerhaven is also a commercial and industrial city, not only because it has the largest closed container terminal facility in Europe. Did you know that nowhere else in the world are so many fish sticks produced, namely 1.5 billion per year? Containerterminalanlage in ganz Europa. Wussten Sie, dass sonst nirgendwo auf der Welt so viele Fischstäbchen produziert werden, nämlich 1,5 Milliarden pro Jahr?

It is not without reason that Bremerhaven is also known as the city of science: it is home to important scientific institutions such as the Alfred Wegener Institute, the Helmholtz Centre for Polar and Marine Research, the two Thünen Institutes for Sea Fisheries and Fisheries Ecology, and the Fraunhofer Institute. The city also has its own university.
